Relationships

Relationships can change a lot for young people, with family and with friends. Changes happen as young people:

  • Become more independent and make decisions for themselves. They have more responsibilities and thoughts about their future.
  • Start to get a sense of their personal identity and sense of self.
  • Start to feel differently about themselves. Self-esteem can decrease due to the lots of changes in your body, thoughts and views on things. Young people think more about who they are, who they want to be and what their future might look like.

Young people spend more time with friends and less with parents and other family members. Relationships can also become romantic/intimate and this is also another important part of becoming an adult.
