Making it work for Families (MIWF) - A partnership of organisations Providing a whole family support service in Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth supporting lone parent, low income or out of work families affected by current, historic or at risk of substance use where there is a young person living at home who is in S1 or S2 at Levenmouth, Viewforth High School or Kirkcaldy High School. We work with the whole family to progress each individual to achieve their goals.

Fife Alcohol Support Service provides counselling and psychotherapy for people in Fife with alcohol-related problems. They help people deal with addiction, excessive regular drinking and binge drinking. FASS also offer the Community Drug Service also offers outreach support in the community for people with drug-related problems, and Curnie Clubs to support people who feel socially isolated. ADAPT is the main alcohol and drug triage service in Fife. It provides assessment of need and referral to specialist drug and alcohol services within the NHS and Third Sector.
ADAPT is for individuals and families worried about alcohol, drugs and prescribed medications. Advice, support for people at risk, access to addiction services, counselling, rehabilitation and other services is provided. ADAPT also have recovery drop-in clinics where no appointment is necessary.

Fife Intensive Rehabilitation & Substance Use Team (FIRST) provides a community based rehabilitation service to individuals in Fife with drug or alcohol issues via one to one, group and volunteer support. FIRST provide a wide range of support, such as reducing/abstaining from drugs and/or alcohol, relapse prevention, coping mechanisms, mental health support, assistance to accessing housing services, benefits, dentist and GP. WAWY will work with you on your own goals, whether that’s cutting down your drug or alcohol use, stopping completely or just getting some advice. They also offer a needle and syringe service, where you can pick up free needles and barrels, return used equipment or get some confidential advice. WAWY can also support you in testing for blood borne viruses such as HIV and Hepititis, and provide access to take home naloxone to prevent overdose. This service is for anyone aged 16+ who is worried about their own or someone else’s drug or alcohol use. WAWY also offers support groups including:
Drug and Alcohol Psychotherapy Limited (DAPL)
DAPL’s counselling service is free and confidential and offered by experienced workers. Services are available for individuals affected by substance use issues and/or emotional distress who reside in Fife. DAPL's Counselling Service is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). DAPL provides adults counselling and art therapy, young people counselling and art therapy, and recovery services for adults.

Restoration provide a diverse range of weekly and monthly activities, both online and in person with the sole aim of developing your recovery. Check out their social media for updates. The Fife Peer mentor service recruits mentors who are stable in their recovery and looking to support individuals who are struggling with substance misuse. The project runs several recovery cafes throughout Fife. Mentors and mentees attend these cafes to reduce isolation and build friendships with other people in recovery. There is a range of activities within the cafes such as art therapy, dry spot blood testing, naloxone training and cooking. Additional activities consist of recovery through nature and recovery through football. The service also run a peer mentor training programme within Scottish Prison Service.

Scottish Families Affected by Drugs and Alcohol is a website for families to go for help, advice and support if you are worried about a loved ones drug or alcohol use. They can help you to understand substance use in the family and how to keep yourself and your loved one safe. It also provides bereavement support for those who have lost a family member to drugs or alcohol. It can also bring you together with other families who have loved ones who use substances. There helpline can be contacted either on webchat, email at or by phone Monday-Friday 9am-11pm with a call back service being offered on the weekends.

SMART Recovery () runs groups that can help you if wish to recover from your substance use. They also offer support groups for family and friends who have a loved one suffering from their addictive behaviour. The program they offer is based on a scientific-based therapeutic programme of training that involves four stages: 1. motivation (building it and maintaining it), 2. coping with urges, 3. managing emotions, thoughts and behaviours and, 4. finding a balanced life.
