Helping your child cope with worry, stress and trauma

Helping your child cope with worry, stress and trauma

Feelings such as being worried, frightened, stressed and anxious are all completely normal emotions that children experience from time to time.  However, you may be concerned that your child feels like this too often, that such feelings are triggered by too many things, or that these emotions are very strong.

Or perhaps you would just like some information about how to help your child when they feel this way.

If your child is experiencing difficulties as a result of a specific traumatic event, please also see the leaflet below on supporting a child after an accident/trauma.

As a parent you may also be experiencing your own difficulties with anxiety, and may find useful information in our Feeling low, anxious or stressed? section.

If you live in Fife why not sign up to our self-help interactive course called GLOW - an anxiety management course for 8-11 years.

If you would like information to support your anxious child or teenager you can sign-up to Silvercloud an online service that consist of six to seven modules which can be completed at a time and pace most convenient to you. Each module contains text, video and audio clips as well as interactive and engaging activities, applications and quizzes that can be completed as you move through the module.
